RECA Radiation Exposure Compensation Act
The Radiation Exposure Compensation Act is a US federal law that compensates people for damages they have received from being exposed to radiation. It covers many areas across the US but recently Cold Water Creek, Bridgeton Landfill and Weldon Springs were added.
If you have been diagnosed with one of the cancers listed below and live in or have lived in one of the zip codes below you are eligible for $50,000 compensation. If a loved one with the same criteria has died, you are also eligible for $25,000 for that loved on.
Eligible Diseases/Cancer
Multiple myeloma, lymphoma, cancer of the thyroid, breast, esophagus, stomach, pharynx, small intestine, pancreas, bile ducts, gall bladder, salivary gland, bladder, brain, colon, ovary, bone, renal, liver(except if cirrhosis or hepatitis B is indicated), lung, or leukemia (individuals are only eligilable for leukemia if their exposure occurred after the age of 20.)

Compensation
Claimants are eligible for $50,000 or total qualifying medical expenses, whichever is greater, if submitted by December 31, 2028. Survivors may receive a total of $25,000 if the individual is deceased.
Who is Ellible
Claimant must establish physical presence in the designated areas for two or more years after Jan 1, 1949. “Physical presence” in a covered area can include their primary residence, employment or attending school.
