August Ballot Amendments and Candidates
August Ballot Recommendations from North County Democrats August Ballot
The August 4th election will be one of THE MOST CONSEQUENTIAL elections in history because of two amendments: Amendments 4 and Amendment 5.
Amendment 4, if passed, will eliminate the initiative petition (IP) process in Missouri. The measure raises the bar so high as to make it impossible to pass. Missourians have used the IP process many times to pass important legislation like the ACA Healthcare, the ban on Right to Work and overturning the total abortion ban. This is an important tool used by citizens when the Missouri legislature refuses to act on needed legislation.
Vote NO on Amendment 4.
Amendment 5 is a bait & switch effort to substitute income taxes for sales taxes on EVERYTHING- EVERYTHING may include taxes on childcare, rent, real estate purchases etc as well as the items we buy. This measure shifts the burden of paying taxes from the wealthy to low-income earners. The Mo Budget Project estimates that 80% of Missourian will see a tax increase via increased sales taxes should this amendment pass. The measure also puts local governments in a chokehold, limiting their funding levels.
Vote NO on Amendment 5.
We are encouraging everyone to remind friends and family to vote against Amendment 4 & 5 this August. If you are willing to take a yard sign that says: “VOTE NO on Amendments 4 &5”, text 314-570-7677 or respond to this email. Please include your address. Yard signs will be distributed in mid July.
Those not registered to vote can do so until July 8th and vote in August. See below for more voting information.
North County Democrats are seeking volunteers to work the polls to defeat Amendment 4 & 5 during early voting and on August 4th. Please respond to this email to volunteer.
Please email or call Senators Hawley ( 202-224-6154) and Senator Schmitt (202-224-5721). Write/call your US Senators and Representative to demand that they stop these unauthorized military strikes on Iran and encourage Trump to testify on the Epstein files Hawley.senate.gov , Schmitt.senate.gov FYI: the Save Act is also on the Five Calls app.
You may not get through but they will probably tally your call so they know how voters feel about it.
These are unprecedented times which can feel chaotic and unsettling. Besides the move towards authoritarianism at the federal level, Missouri Republicans have chosen to deny voters representation and a voice in government.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, TAKE ACTION.
Small actions make a difference.
One action is to contact your US Senators and US Representative with your concerns or suggestions. Keep your letter short and respectful. Legislators keep count of the people for & against legislation or ideas. Their phone numbers/emails are below. FYI: Emailing at the federal level requires that you go first to the person’s website, click on “CONTACT US”.
